Forget About The Magic Pill of Success

I want to let you in on the secret to health.

Consistency.

Oh, and time.

That’s it.

There’s no magic pill, or secret formula to achieving a healthy body, no matter how many different programs or solutions you see advertised that chime their way is the only way.

No, the key to success is consistency over time.

But that’s not sexy. It doesn’t sell books or magazine articles, and it doesn’t appeal to our current nature of instant gratification.

We want everything, and we want it yesterday.

In these days if you want to get somewhere an Uber will be outside your house in 5 minutes. Amazon Prime Now can deliver anything you want within 1-2 hours.

In today’s world where everything is reachable at the touch of a button it is hard to have patience in order to see results.

We start a new eating routine or gym regime and if we haven’t seen results in the first week or two we give up and try something new.

 

Let me tell you that often the methods that bring you the quickest results are the least sustainable long term.

 

They require too drastic a change, or something that’s not really that enjoyable.

How many of you have tried Atkins or Paleo and fallen off the wagon because you really didn’t enjoy not eating carbs?

I know my hand is up.

If you don’t enjoy something, then it is not sustainable. If it is not sustainable, it isn’t going to bring you lasting results.

 

So what do we do?

 

Bin the idea that losing several stone in several months is sustainable.

 

If you crash diet that hard, your body will fight back against that weight loss in several ways. Your metabolism will slow, and you will be hungrier and less full when eating.

Slowly but surely, the weight will creep back on.

 

Make small changes to your current diet that keep it enjoyable.

 

How much are you eating? Really? And what types of foods?

Improve your intake by eating plenty of lean proteins (meat/fish) fruit, vegetables, fibrous carbohydrates (whole grains/legumes) and unsaturated fats (nuts/seeds/avocados).

Eat the food you enjoy and make the recipes you want to make including the above, you really will be spoilt for choice.

 

Exercise on a daily basis.

 

Just like your eating habits, your exercise routine should be sustainable and enjoyable.

This is the number 1 way to be successful.

It doesn’t matter if research has shown that high intense interval cardio combined with weight training is the most successful method of burning fat, if you don’t enjoy doing this, you will not be successful.

If you LOVE going to Zumba and Body Pump, then do it to your heart’s content!

Aim for 30-60 minutes of SOME movement per day, and you will be on route to success.

Do the above, CONSISTENTLY.

If you consistently show up, put the work in, eat your vegetables (as your Grandma told you to), you will be successful.

It just might take some TIME.
